Waiting for more MRI results

Well here I am again waiting for the next round of results for a lesion that appears to be so rare no one else has one! And I guess the only people who will read and reply will be the lovely moderators (thanks guys!). I have now had my detailed MRI which will hopefully tell the medics what this lesion is that presses on my sciatic nerve and wakes me most nights. No one in the hospitai has spoken to me since my first MRI, I have just been copied in on a couple of very medically worded letters sent to my GP and I have so many questions I want to ask! I hope to goodness that this doesn't happen to anyone else.

    Hi Songbird,

It sounds as if you have been having a hard time trying to get a diagnosis. Unfortunately, there are a number of people in a similar position and it can be very frustrating. I am glad to hear that you have now had a detailed MRI and hope that you will soon know the outcome. Have you been told when you are likely to get the result?

I have had two bouts of breast cancer in the past 12 years and, would advise you to write down a list of all your questions and to have these with you when you talk to your consultant. It is all too easy to forget to ask important questions in the heat of the moment.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thanks Jolamine,

Your reply was really appreciated. I have some very dear friends who have had breast cancer as well as my late Mum (she got over the breast cancer though). What you said was really lovely and made sense too.

I have no idea when I will get my result. I have no follow up appointment. It's complicated (as things always are) and this lesion was found when I was having an MRI for back pain through rheumatology. They were not expecting anything like this - and from what information I have been given, have been discussed by various radiologists in meetings. I will have to wait until the end of this week at least before I ring the department to see if the MRI results are there, but the last 2 times I have been told I will get a letter - and that is all. It will most likely turn out benign, I don't know. I am really hoping it is something they can remove, as it makes it's presence known every day (that's why I am replying at 3.45am).

    Hi Songbird,

Hard though it is just now, it is just as well that this lesion was spotted and is being investigated. Here's hoping that you hear soon and that nothing untoward is found.

Please keep in touch and remember that we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
