Breast Referral letter SCARED

So I have a fibroadenoma in my right breast, that was cleared two years ago. Now I have another lump in my left, so I went to the doctor.. She said it feels 50/50 between another fibro or a cyst. She and I can move it around so she's not concerned but will still refer me to the breast clinic.  I received a letter that said

Clinic: Suspected Breast Cancer DGH and the name of the hospital.

Suspected breast cancer?! Understandably terrified, my last referral didn't have this on. Is this a new thing? Or are they suspecting?

    Hi Hanzt,

Please don't worry about what your letter has said. This is just a generic letter. When we attend with a cyst or fibroadenoma, there is always the chance that it could be cancer, but in your case it is reassuring that your GP doesn't think that this is likely. If your lump is moveable and your GP is not concerned, hold on to these facts and don't panic. Only 1 person in every 8 referred to the breast clinic gets a cancer diagnosis.

Do you have to wait long for your appointment? I hope not, as waiting is always one of the scariest times. You are doing the right thing in getting this investigated and your GP is just being thorough.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hey,

I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I am going through the exact same thing. I went to the drs last week because of a lump in my right breast. She found it straight away and it was smooth and mobile which I'm clinging onto as positive signs! She also said she was very reassured as I had had this lump for over a year with no other changes or symptoms. She sounded so reassuring that I was absolutely shocked to read on my notes "suspected breast cancer". However, I now know that with any lump that needs checking out, they have to write this. It's basically the protocol so that we can be checked out quickly. I've seen a lot of other posts on here where the doctors weren't very reassuring and seemed more concerned, so try to cling on to that!

  • Not sure this is the right place to update this thread by I had a biopsy today! The consultant said it didn't feel sinister but he would like it to be biopsied, so I had that done.  She said she doesn't know what it is, but it doesn't look worrying which is good, but do they have to say that I'm just waiting for results now.. Which is the scary bit
