Strange symptoms

Hi all.

Awaiting my referral appointment which is on Monday.

I wondered if anyone else has had similar symptoms?

I felt tenderness in the top part of my left breast a few months ago and thought nothing if it. Although it didn't go away it didn't get any worse. I noticed a slight change in the fullness and decided to make an appointment with my GP. He noticed a tiny yellow bruise and after examination referred me for a two week appointment to check as I'd had the tenderness for a couple of months.

Yesterday (10 days later) there was a definite increase in pain which is now radiating across the top of my breast and also a distinct swelling in my armpit.

My breast looks slightly more pink than usual but other than that there are no other symptoms.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Obviously I'm on a cancer forum so yes that is at the back of my mind. Initially as there was pain and no lump, I didn't even consider it. Then I remembered a relative had inflammatory breast cancer and I wondered if I could be experiencing symptoms.

Understandably I don't want to worry anyone close to me unduly until I have a second opinion but any similar experiences good or bad would be gratefully appreciated.

thank you ️

    Hi Babyc,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

Unfortunately, it is impossible to say what the outcome will be. The only way to be certain is to have some tests, which will confirm either way. This is why your GP has referred you to the clinic. I am not a doctor, but I know that breast pain seldom accompanies breast cancer. When you say that you first noticed this a few months ago, could it be hormonal? Breast pain can be experienced at the time of menstruation.

I do hope that you don't have long to wait for your appointment and that nothing untoward is found. Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

    Thanks for your reply.

I know a diagnosis isn't possible on this forum, I was just wondering if anyone had had a similar experience.

I had a hysterectomy a few years ago and went into surgical menopause, besides it's nothing like period pain.

    thanks for your reply x

  • Hi. I know someone who had pain in her breast and they kept dismissing her until a lump in her armpit came up. It was cancer but she's fine now. I also knew a woman who had breast pain ànd lump in her armpit and it was an abscess. It could be something like a blocked duct. An elderly lady I knew who had inflammatory breast cancer and hee breast used to burn and feel hot but no pain. Xx

  • Thank you for your reply.

it's reassuring to think it could be a blocked duct x

    Hi Babyc,

I am sorry that I didn't answer your question. Yes, there are a number of women who have had similar symptoms with varying outcomes. The pain doesn't have to be anything like period pain, it is just tied in with hormonal changes.

Keeping my fingers crossed that you get good news.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
