Enlarged lymph nodes in groin

Hi Everyone

I went to the doctors a few months ago with excessive sweating (I've always had this from hitting puberty). The GP took bloods and it showed my wbc was slightly elevated at 14. I had them repeated and they came down to 12 and the 3rd time went back to 14 and my inflammatory markers were raised.

I have since had a CT scan which showed a cluster of enlarged lymph nodes in my groin, and I'm being referred to a haemotologist. Everything else on the scan came back clear

As you can understand I'm absolutely beside myself with worry thinking it is the worst case scenario. I can't even feel anything swollen in my groin area, so without the CT scan I'd have been none the wiser. I've had no weight loss, no recent infections/illnesses or tiredness.

I did have Covid back in November 20, and a car accident in Feb 20 which resulted in lower back injury which I still get pain from.

Has anyone been through anything similar? Sorry I've rambled, I'm just so nervous

  • I've had enlarged lymph nodes in my groin which you can feel for the past couple years, never had any problems or side affects that I know of and they've stayed the same side since. I've also got them in my armpits and neck but again, no change in size or anything. Not seen a doctor which is probably unwise but I just keep telling myself if it was anything serious you'd like to think they'd be more serious symptoms and they'd have grown in size. Do get anxious about it every now n again though, so some peice of mind would actually be quite nice but that thought in the back thinking it could be anything more serious scares me hahaha.

  • I know what you mean. I'm that person who thinks everything is something and it can't be anything else. I went from seeing a nurse about sweating and being referred to a dermatologist, to then getting a 2w referral to a haematologist and a ct scan. I just wish I had answers now because the worry and anxiety is taking over my life

  • I've had raised lymph nodes in my groin for 5 years now they have never reduced have got a little bigger been to the doctors three times as I can see them and have grown once I was told it's nothing and practically laughed at told it was done shaving then had to then show it again to say it's not from shaving it's been there years it just appeared possible infection when having my daughter could have caused it to raise noticed it after birth second time told it's raised lymph node nothing done told again that I'm worried was sent for an ultrasound who just said raised lymph node ok wondering why these lymph nodes are never taken seriously I don't know I still worry about mine now because it's clear it's one side of my groin on my pubic line it's embarrassing and I'm thinking of asking for mine to be removed because it's visible and damages confidence not to mention it can't be doing it's job if it's like that and the potential of it turning into something I don't know why everyone dosent get biopsies when they have had it for a long time why are docs never worried

  • Can you not feel yours then cos mine are pretty noticeable, only some of them are classed as swollen though as far as I'm aware. Pretty sure they're only classed as swollen once they become larger than 1cm, any smaller than that and it's seen as normal I think

  • Just to give you an update...I got a referral letter on Saturday for the Haemotologist. For January 2022.

So I was put on a 2w referral originally, enlarged lymph nodes on CT scan and the NHS appointment booking line advised me that my original 2W refferal has now been downgraded to a 'routine referral'
Called my GP surgery this morning to query this, was told they have no triage appointments left so nobody can speak to me. Called the hospital to be told to call the GP surgery.

I just can't believe the lack of communication :(
