I'm wondering if anyone can reassure me I found a small rice size hard lump on my right breast, I got it checked and the doctor said it came away with the skin and it was scar tissue( I have a bad habit of skin picking especially on my chest). She said she was happy after doing a full breast examination and did not send me for any further checks. lately it's been really irritated and I've been getting a slight burning sensation around the lump I also have pains come and go in me shoulder and arm on the same side. Would appreciate any advice

    If you're not entirely comfortable, I would push for a referral. My doctor said she was almost 100% sure my lump was nothing but referred me to the breast clinic due to my age etc.  The doctor there also thought it was nothing but after mammogram and ultrasound it turns out I have cancer.  I'm sure my situation is rare and you will be absolutely fine, but if you're even thinking there may be an issue, you need the reassurance that there isn't xxx

    A very warm welcome to our forum.

    I am sorry to hear that you do not feel reassured after seeing your GP. It is unusual to have pain associated with breast cancer. You do not say what age you are, but cancer is less prevalent in younger people than in older ones.

    If you are still not convinced, could you make an appointment with another doctor in the practice? We are all entitled to a second opinion and, this is often the best way to get it. This should be a wake up call for you to stop picking your breast skin. As it is, 1 person in 2 gets breast cancer, but you certainly don't want to encourage additional growth. Is there any chance that you are menstruating at present? Hormonal changes can also cause breast changes.

    If the doctor is at all suspicious, s/he will refer you to the breast clinic for further tests.
