Referred to Hospital after failure to locate Cervix

Hi everyone,

During my last smear the nurse failed to locate my cervix during a routine Smear Test.

I was in some pretty strange positions, very uncomfortable and eventually she had to ask a senior nurse to help. The "that's surely it, it must be?" Was a little unsettling as I've never had a problem locating the cervix before.
I have had a colposcopy in the past and the nurses said they believe the scar tissue may have made my cervix smaller as they couldn't get the tinniest of swabs close enough to get a decent sample.

I was referred to hospital as they have better equipment, my appointment is tomorrow morning and I'm a little nervous as like I said there has never been an issue before and my colposcopy was a good few year ago. (About 5/6)

Anyone experience anything similar? I did the usual thing I tell everyone else not to do and googled possible outcomes!

Any thoughts, advice, experiences are greatly appreciated.

  • Hi Pixie84,

I hope I can put your mind at rest as the exact same thing has happened to me a few years ago. Smear tests are bad enough, without being stuck on the bed for 20 mins in all sorts of weird positions. The last time the nurse (and the doctor she called for) finally gave up and made an appointment for me at the hospital. It was totally fine - the equipment was so much better and the doctor there managed to get a sample in a matter of seconds (and it came back normal). Please don't worry!

    xx

  • Oh thank you so much!! That really makes me feel more at ease ️ I think I'm just over worrying.
