Lump In Breast

Hi I'm 34 and have a lump in my left breast in the upper outter quadrant. I went to my doctor on Monday 18th and I'm now in the two week referral period.

Everything I have googled is pointing towards it being cancer. Breast cancer is more typical in the left breat and in the upper outter quadrant.

However... I can only feel the lump when I'm sat up or standing up. I can't feel it lying down on my back or sides or leaning over.

My mum felt it without me pointing to the location and my doctor felt it too, but again only when I was upright.

It's a hard lump, can't be moved.

Does anybody have experience of this type of lump?

  • Hello Doodlebug21

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a breast lump. You've done exactly the right thing in getting this checked with your GP. Hopefully, you won' have to wait too long for your appointment with the Consultant.

We know that waiting for appointments can be a very worrying time. Unfortunately searching Google for information often leaves people feeling even more anxious so please do give the internet a wide berth for the moment. The vast majority of people who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer so try to stay positive for the moment and take things a day at a time.

It really can help to talk things through with someone and I'd suggest giving one of our nurses a call. I'm confident they will be able to give you some advice, information, and support to help you ahead of your appointment. If you'd like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Keep in touch and let us know how you get on at the appointment.

    Best wishes,
