Breast Lump

Hi everyone,

Around a month ago I called the doctors as I found a lump in my breast. I am only 21 but I was getting quite concerned about it even though majority of lumps found are not cancerous. She then saw me the next day and said it was just breast tissue and was probably because of my period. I don't have periods due to the contraceptive mini pill I am on. She never said anything more on it, whether it would stay or go at the end of my cycle or anything. It has been a month since then and the lump is still there. I was looking for advice on it. Is this normal? Or should I be worried and contact the doctors again?  I would appreciate any advice.

Thank you,

Annie

    Hi Annie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear that you have found a lump. Although it is unusual for people of your age to get cancer, it is sadly not impossible. Many lumps are not cancerous, but benign cysts or fibrous changes.

You are obviously still worried. Can you see another doctor in your practice for a second opinion? Sometimes people of your age have to push to get further investigation. If the doctor you see is concerned, they can refer you to the breast clinic, where you will get further tests. This is the only way to be certain that all is clear.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Thank you for responding, I will try and get it contact with my doctor again about the lump. As I feel quite worried that it has stayed past my menstrual cycle.

    Thank you for your advice!
