GP referred me to breast cancer centre

Hi guys,

Hopefully you don't mind me joining, I'm currently on day 3 of extreme night time anxiety awaiting my appointment and found myself here.

Im a 25 year old female, I went to the GP with a swollen lymph node under my jaw a few weeks back (it's been there a while) and they didn't take me too seriously. 3 weeks later I returned with a 4 lumps for them to look at, one in neck, one under ear, 2 under jaw. They did a breast examination and felt something, she used the word 'mass', she also felt something under my armpit on the same side. The breast has changed shape and does have some 'pull' to it where you can see an indentation, but I put this down to seatbelt injury from a minor car accident a couple of years back.

long story short I've pretty much told myself I have cancer, my mum has only just finished treatment for stage 3 invasive lobular carcinoma (breast & lymph nodes). She just keeps telling me we can't possibly have this much bad luck so I just won't have cancer.

Im not too bad during the day, I have the odd zone out moment where I get anxious for a while but I can distract myself again, but I'm truly driving myself mad at night. I'm trying to do research to prep myself for results because I'm so sure they will be bad and I want to be able to cope and ask questions.  I'm sad with how long the process is from GP to clinic to results from a biopsy, averaging around 3-4 weeks.

  • Welcome to the forum Liverpool25 although I'm sorry for the reason you're joining us.

The pandemic has had quite a big impact on NHS services within the UK and sadly some are still struggling more than othersat the moment but hopefully you won't have to wait too long for your appointment.

Many of our members know how worrying and stressful this time can be so I'm sure some of them will offer their support and advice to you soon but in the meantime I hope the tips and advice given on the NHS Every Mind Matters website will help keep your anxiety at bay.

Fingers crossed everything will turn out o.k Liverpool25.
