Recall after mammogram

Hi there, I'm nearly 55 and have had three mammograms in just over 6 years. Each time I have been recalled, the most recent recall is for this Wednesday. Does anyone know if this is normal please? The last time I was told I had dense breast tissue, but this must be something new as they would be comparing previous mammograms wouldn't they? I have not yet gone through the menopause unfortunately, but am well and truly in the perimenopause which is making my anxiety worse. Any advice would be more than welcome please. Thank you.

  • Hi Owl and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

I'm sorry no-one was able to get back to you before you went for your mammogram today but I hope it has gone well and the breast clinic team were able to put your mind at ease.

If you'd like to discuss this with one of our nurses, you're welcome to give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m but I hope this handy article on Breast Cancer Now will help lessen your anxiety as well.

Many of our members have had recalls over the years so I'm sure some of them will pop by soon to offer their support and advice.

Fingers crossed for good results Owl.

    Kind regards,

  • Hi there, I have to return for a stereotactic vacuum assisted biopsy on 29th October. There is an area of concern showing on the mammogram, but nothing is showing on the ultra-sound or by feeling. It looks like a very dense white patch. There were some cysts showing on the ultra-sound but that was it.

The consultant asked if I'd had any trauma to the breast or operations which I haven't. I did have a fibroadenoma removed from behind the nipple in 1992, but they tell me this was on the left breast (I can't remember and there is no visible scar as it was behind the nipple) and the concern is now with the right.

Last time I was recalled they showed me the previous mammogram they had compared but this time that didn't happen, not sure why.

Don't know what to think now to be honest.
