Thyroid cancer?

Hi all,

So I noticed a lump on my neck a few weeks back, blood tests came back showing thyroid function normal, had an appointment with the ENT dept , they put a camera down my throat had a look said definitely swollen nodules and there is a possibility it could be cancer  (great) , going for an ultrasound and biopsy this week,

I'm just wondering what sort of symptoms did anyone with thyroid cancer have,

At The minute fatigue is a real killer for me , along with slight hoarseness , some pain/discomfort where the lump is and the back of my neck, dizzy spells, and sometimes a sore throat almost like its bruised, I also have swollen lymph nodes on the right said but the ENT doctor said I shouldn't worry about that, I understand that even if it is cancer it's very treatable,  but it's all abit surreal at the min and would like to hear other peoples stories

    I had thyroid cancer and had absolutely no symptoms other than a lump on my neck which I didn't even notice. I think that is pretty normal with thyroid cancer. I felt 100% fine and only even found out there was a nodule when I went to the doctor with a completely unrelated issue and he said, "oh, there's a cyst on your neck there. Has it ever been checked out?"

    Most thyroid nodules are not cancer - I think over 90% of them are benign, so the odds are very much in your favour.

    And yes, even if it is thyroid cancer, it is very treatable and the treatment isn't too bad at all. They don't usually use chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The most common treatment is to remove your thyroid. This means surgery, obviously and afterwards, you have to take medication to do what your thyroid previously did. There is a very good chance that once you take the medication, you will feel no different than you did beforehand or perhaps you may feel less fatigued or not fatigued at all. Some people apparently do have trouble getting the medication right, but most do not.

    Afterwards, they may do radioiodine treatment if they think you are at higher risk of reccurance. This is a nuisance, as you are radioactive after it and therefore have to be in isolation for a short period of time, but it isn't painful or uncomfortable or anything. It's just a matter of swallowing a capsule and I didn't feel anything at all.

    Sorry to hear about your situation. This is my first time posting on here as well, im in the same situation as you. My Daughter was the one that noticed a lump on my neck. All panic then set it and I was very quickly referred to have an ultra sound and biopsy. The Radiologist told me I had one very large nodule. (My bloods are fine). He said it was 'boaderline' whatever that means. 

    I have an emergency follow up appointment next week. I'm convinced it will be cancer and I'm extremely anxious, so I totally understand where your head is at.

    Yup, I'm 100% fine. I do have my yearly check up next month to check there are no signs of reccurrence, but so far, so good.

    I know any form of cancer is terrifying though. I got an awful fright when I was diagnosed, but if it's any consolation, I missed exactly one month of work.
