I have a small lump on the underside of the back of my jaw

Under the back of the right side of my jaw there's a small lump that hurts a bit when I push it or squeese it. My jaw has been a bit tender for a few weeks and I've just checked it to see what's wrong and now I feel a lump. I'm scared this may be cancer, because I've smoked for a few months now, I don't want to go to the doctor's though because my parents will find out. Would I be able to go to the doctor's by myself or would they need my parents?

  • Hello Shortperson

I'm sorry to hear that you've recently found a lump. It's important that anyone who finds a new lump gets this checked out by their GP.

You don't mention in the post how old you are, just that you're worried about your parents finding out. I'd really encourage you to just let your parents know about this lump and how much it's worrying you. I'm sure that they will be supportive and help you to arrange an appointment with the GP if necessary.

You might also want to have a look at this information on the NHS website about stopping smoking. It's never too late to make healthy lifestyle choices and there is lots of support to help you.

    Best wishes,
