Toenail…melanoma?

Hi everyone

i noticed a brown smudge mark on my big toenail about a month ago. I've not hurt it or banged it. Never thought anything if it really till the last week when I noticed the nail seems to be more rounded where that smudge is, and there is a tiny brown line and two tiny dark dots. From a distance it looks just like a smudge under the nail. 
 

I saw the doctor as just wanted to check and she asked if I had any history of melanoma in my family which I don't. She then told photos using a special light and the pictures under the light look completely different to how I see it

she's now sent to the dermatologist and said I will hear within two weeks.

 

I am absolutely terrified. Anyone else had this and it's been nothing? I thought she would say it's fungal but she didn't even mention. 
 

Trying to just wait it out, but honestly really quite scared.

    I can understand this must be unsettling and I know the waiting is never easy. Try to focus on the fact that you've got it checked out quickly, very shortly after you noticed it, and that it's now being looked at by a specialist. This will mean you get the answers before too long. I appreciate it may be a tough time while waiting to hear more - try to take things a day at a time while you wait, and keep yourself busy to help keep your mind off things as much as possible.

    I'm sure there will be others here who have been through something similar, so hopefully you'll receive further replies soon.

    I'm sorry to hear you are going through this. I'm going through something similar, has there been any update? I saw a dermatologist and have got a biopsy on Monday which I'm quite nervous about. X
