Biopsy now changed to MRI

I am due to have another MRI very soon - should have been having an ultrasound biopsy on a lesion I have in my buttock.  The ultrasound department have told me that the ultrasound biopsy will be too dangerous due to the position of the lesion Does anyone know if an MRI can be detailed enough to tell what this is? I had an MRI to start with, then an ultrasound, now back to MRI machine!

  • Hello Songbird68

I'm sorry to hear that you're still waiting on further tests to diagnose the lesion that you have. It's natural to feel anxious and frustrated especially when plans are changed.

Presumably, the next MRI that you're now due to have will in some way be different from the initial scan and will give the radiologists more information that will help the Consultants make a decision about what is going on and what the appropriate next steps may be.

If you'd like to chat things through with one of our team of nurses you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. I'm sure that they will be happy to give you any advice and information that they can.

I hope you have some news soon.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Jenn,

Again a helpful reply from a moderator. I guess what I have here is fairly rare as no one else seems to mention lumps in this area. Unfortunately I work at the same time as your nurses - so I will just see what happens at the appointment. I would feel much happier if I even knew who is overseeing my care right now as I was refered using the hospitals own referal system - so I've kind of feel shifted sideways and have no point of contact!
