My testicular cancer journey

Hello everyone and what a great community this is!

Many of us possibly stumbled here from Google and I found it hard to find a post similar to my situation that is kept up to date by the author so I have decided to do that in the hope that others can read and be part of my story.

On 11th Oct 2021 I discovered my left testicle was a little larger than it's next door neighbour. It was also firmer to the touch but no lumps anywhere. With two young kids, one of which likes to climb all over daddy, I put it down to the occasional wrong footing in that rather delicate area.

On the morning of 12th Oct 2021 the size difference seemed bigger and I thought I need to do something about this. GP appointment that day confirmed my thoughts and immediately referred for bloods and ultrasound. Advised roughly 2/3 week lead time for scan. Couldn't help feel deflated but thought it's one of the really well curable cancers so fingers crossed.

13th Oct 2021. Call from NHS to say they've had a cancellation and scan now booked in for 15th Oct. I'm delighted naturally but now starting to feel a dull ache from the affected testicle. Whilst this could be many things, I can't help but have a bad feeling about this.

I'll continue to keep this thread up to date

  • Hi Denezzar,

I'm here for the skin cancer posts but wanted to wish you well for your appointment today.

Both my son and husband have had testicular scans.  My son noticed like you a size change, he had his scan during lockdown on the 2 week refferal and all was found to be ok.

My husband has a lump alongside his testicles within the sac, his is a long standing cyst whoch he has checked every few years.

They both say its a slightly odd proceedure, you may need to assist to get things into position, but no discomfort or pain.

Anyway, wishing you the best outcome today.

  • Sadly today 15th Oct wasn't the greatest of days. Ultrasound confirmed my worst fears and was immediately sent for chest X-ray to see if it had spread.

Ultrasound very straight forward. Lie back, warm gel and then each testicle scanned. All done in 10 mins.

Things have moved quickly however. Had an appointment with consultant today and the offending testicle is being removed on Wednesday 20th Oct

  • Hello denezzar

I'm sorry to hear that you've officially had a diagnosis of testicular cancer today. Understandably it's a difficult time but it's good to know that you've already been given a date for your surgery.

I wanted to let you know that we have a team of nurses that you can call to talk to if you feel it would help at any point. They're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040. I also wanted to tag in [@NickF07]‍ and [@tommaine]‍ who are two chaps here on the forum who I know have been through treatment for the same. Hopefully, they will see this post and reply to share their experiences and words of advice with you.

I hope that all goes well with the surgery next week. Keep in touch and let us know how you're doing.

    Best wishes,
    Jenn
