colonoscopy due just turned 30

1 year ago...hpv positive on a colposcopy.

couple of days later I notice blood but from the rear, phone my doctor to discuss. wait for everything to settle before we investigate.

que numerous lots of blood tests, a change in doctors, testing for crohns, ibd, lactose intolerance, coeliac etc etc I was sent to a FIT test. this came back positive.

After a very quick 2 week urgent referral, followed by triage, I'm now due a gold star urgent colonoscopy. I turned 30 in April and for the last 8 years I've been told IBS, your too young.

finally something is being done and investigated. but I'm stuck on how concerned I should be.

part of me is saying ahh it's fine at least something is being investigated. the other part of me thinks the C word was dropped quite alot.

now reading up all sorts on the increase in colon cancer in people my age.

any advice? or just something to ease my brain!

  • You know what's so odd is that a while back I also had vitamin d deficiency which also resolved itself after a few months but like yourself my bloods came back absolutely fine x

  • mine was just after lockdown so think it was down to being in isolation. some time outdoors and supplements sorted it out. glad you've found a gp that listens. your on the right track. my procedure is weds next week so will let you know how it goes :)

  • Hi, just got back from my colonoscooy.

the laxatives weren't my proudest moment but all OK, tasted gross. but in all not bad at all.

had sedation, the nurses were fab. was uncomfortable and a little painful but mainly due to 1 pedunculated polyp of 2.5mm in my lower sigmoid. back I'm 4 weeks time for it to be removed as the hospital I went to was just a community hospital so they are referring me to a bigger hospital for it. just awaiting pathology results.

  • just thought for anyone having a mooch around threads I would update it.

I've just got back from my sigmoidoscopy (I think its spelt)

at my colonoscopy I was told the Polyp was 2.5mm and they were unable to remove it due to its size. referring me to a royal hospital for removal.

again I did the moviprep in advance. unfortunatly they couldn't get a canula in so I opted for gas & air, throughout the procedure it became known that the Polyp was not 2.5mm but 50mm.

the lights came on a canula was forced along with gas & air. I may add this was incredibly painful but was managed well by the team.

After cutting the Polyp into 4 peices it was removed and will be sent off for testing. although my previous biopsies were benign they're sending it off as normal and to be sure.

what was meant to be a 20 minute removal ended up taking just over an hour. but the team were fab and very reassuring.

a KFC was had, an electric blanket was abused and I'm in bed watching love actually in November, don't dwell on what's coming, enjoy the relief after.

  • Can I ask if everything is ok now ?
hubby has been bleeding maroon coloured blood for 10 days now, just waiting for tests , we're scared stiff , he's 57

  • oh bless you, it can be really worrying.

in my case the Polyp was removed and all issues I had prior to removal have now ended.

so yes after removal everything had been peachy. finally some answers and feeling like a normal person again. x
