First appointment. Head and neck.

Hi I have been given an appointment at the hospital after an urgent referral by my GP. I have a lump next to my cheekbone, possibly the salivary gland; and one or two on my neck/gland.

Obviously I'm very concerned so I'm endlessly googling what could happen, and what I'm likely to be diagnosed with. Most lists of symptoms mention bleeding and pain - I have neither - is this a good sign, or is that typical of early onset?

  • Hello and welcome to the community MrsNat76.

I know it can be scary when you find out you've been urgently referred for further investigation but as you'll see on our website, 9 out of 10 people who are referred this way are not diagnosed with cancer.

I know this won't take the worry away as it's only natural to be concerned but I hope it helps to steady your nerves until your appointment comes through.

Hopefully some of our members who have been referred with similar symptoms will be along soon to share their experiences and advice but in the meantime do try and resist googling as it will only make your fears and worries worse.

We're sending our support your way MrsNat76 and will have our fingers crossed for good news.

    All the best,

  • Hi MrsNat!

If you don't mind letting us know if anything came of this as I have similar lumps, and have had an abnormal ultrasound and been 2ww referred to head and neck cancer clinic, so wondering if I should be worried!

I hope you are all well!!!!!
