Call back from clear Mammogram

Just wondering if there is anyone out there that could shed some light. I found a lump about a month ago, had a consultation, mammogram and ultrasound on 3rd, where I was told all is absolutely fine, completely clear, and I could go home. On 5th I received a call back letter to go back in on 4th November to the renal and transplant department.
I still have the lump, which was diagnosed as a fatty deposit, but I'm very confused. I did call the dept where the letter came from as I thought it might have been a mistake and got through to breast surgery!  I was told that the consultant wants to check again. Is this normal for a fatty lump, or should I assume that something else was found after a second look at the mammogram?  It's so long to wait and I'm constantly feeling sick.
sorry for the essay, just wondering if anyone had been called back after being told all is clear. Thanks. x

  • Hello Lou and welcome to the Cancer Chat community.

Mammogram callbacks are quite common, especially if this was the first time you had one, as they may just want to get more images to make sure nothing was missed.

Hopefully some of our members who have been in this situation will share their experiences with you soon but do try and be reassured by the positive results you've had so far.

If you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses, you can give them a quick call on 0808 800 4040. Their phone lines are open Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m and they'll do all they can to answer your questions and put your mind at ease.

I know the next couple of weeks will be tough so I just wanted to share this handy article I've found on how to cope with waiting for news.

I hope this helps and all goes well at your appointment next month.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
