2 week referral

hello, i'm 19 years old, 20 in march, i have found a lump in my boob around 3 months ago, was told it was nothing it's had almost doubled in size and it's hard and feels bumpy rather than smooth so i went back to my gp and he referred me for a 2 week wait scan now i'm scared because i'm reading that there's a criteria and people under 30 won't be put on the 2ww system. so does my GP strongly feel it could be cancer?? he didn't even say much to me about it

  • Hi Charliiiii and welcome to the community.

I'm sorry about the lump you've found and that it's got bigger but it's good you went to your GP and you've now been referred to the breast clinic to have this investigated in more detail.

I know this must be a scary time but I hope it helps to know that 9 out of 10 people who are referred this way are not diagnosed with cancer. You can find out more about urgent referrals on our website but if you'd like to talk things through with one of our cancer nurses then do give them a call on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Hopefully some of our members who have been through this process will be along soon to offer their support and advice as well.

In the meantime, we'll have our fingers crossed the results show the lump is no cause for concern.

    Kind regards,
