Blood in urine and cysts on ovaries

I am so nervous. I've been having pain during and after sex that can last a week to two weeks and periods non stop for months. I have been getting symptoms all the time of water infections and went to the Dr in June and was told my urine had blood in but no infection. My symptoms were back pain and constant need for the toilet with pain on a morning in my bladder. I was given antibiotics anyway. A month later so change so I had a second wee test and again blood in wee but no infection so I was referred to urology. The urologist did a scan inside my bladder and didn't find anything and couldn't explain the blood in the wee.

2 months ago I had an mri on my back due to something else and this week the Dr has contacted me to say when I had the scan they found some cysts on my ovaries and so I am seeing the doctor in a week. I am scared to death that I may have ovarian cancer. The pain after sex is awful and the unexplained blood in urine and water infection symptoms but no infection is worrying me.

Can someone please advise if these are symptoms of ovarian cancer? Specifically the blood without infection? I am only 32 years old and petrified. Everything I read about this type of cancer says you only get symptoms when it's too late and the chances of living 5 years are slim. I am going out of my mind waiting for the appointment.

  • Welcome to the forum Leah although I'm sorry about the symptoms you've been experiencing and for worry the cysts are causing.

You can find out about the general signs and symptoms of ovarian cancer on our website but if you can, try not to jump to any worse case scenarios until you've found out more. There are many types of cysts that can be found on the ovaries, not just cancerous ones, so do try to keep that in mind when you find your worries are getting the better of you.

Hopefully some of our members will be along soon to offer their support and advice but in the meantime I hope this article on how to cope with waiting for news will help.

You can also talk things through with one of our cancer nurses on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Wishing you all the best for next week Leah.

    Kind regards,
