Breast lump reduced or vanished

Hello all,

I've been on estrogel for 4 months after the insertion of a Mirena coil during a hysteroscopy to investigate heavy periods. I'm 51. I told the Dr preforming the hysteroscopy that last time I had the Mirena, my sex drive disappeared. She suggested the Gel. I've been using 2 pumps a day. Anyway fast forward to last week, I noticed a very tender area in my upper boob. I had a feel and found a very large, strange shaped, hard lump. It almost felt square. I had a clear mammogram about 3 months ago so I didn't panic but I made an appointment to see the GP that day. He confirmed there was a lump on one side and said he'd refer me to the breast clinic though he said he found the clear mammogram reassuring. Anyway, I had a feeling the lump was connected to my estrogel so I stopped using it. About 3 days later, the lump has shrunk, though my husband swears it has vanished. It was very large before. I think because its still tender a little for me, I am thinking I can still feel a bit of bumpines though a fraction of its original size. I think I'm going to keep the breast clinic appointment though I wondered if I should inform my GP about what's happening first?

  • Hi Chelleypop,

Do be sure to keep your appointment as it will be able to confirm whether the lump has gone or not, and if it's any cause for concern. Hopefully this won't be the case but it's always good to get peace of mind.

I don't think there's any harm in keeping the GP updated but if you'd like to get our cancer nurses thoughts on this before doing so then do give them a call. They're available on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

Many of our members have been in similar situations so hopefully some of them will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon.

Wishing you all the best with your appointment when the time comes Chellypop.

    Kind regards,

    Steph, Cancer Chat Moderator
