Worried about swollen lymph nodes

Hi everyone,

I'm literally so terrified and I don't really know how to start but from what I can tell I now have 8 (??) swollen lymph nodes, with 5 under my jaw and 3 on the right side of my neck.

All of them are soft, small and moveable and haven't grown in size. The ones under my jaw have been there for about 6 or so weeks now and were quite painful when they first appeared but are now completely painless. The ones in my neck however have been there for around 3 weeks and haven't hurt at any point.

I have been quite tired recently but I don't know if that's connected to this or to school (still in year 11). Besides that I've had no other symptoms.

Ive been to the doctors about the ones under my jaw about a month ago and they said they couldn't feel anything which is very frustrating because I can definitely feel them!

Sorry if this is quite lengthy, I'm not really sure what I want to hear but if anyone could offer any thoughts it would be really appreciated.

Thanks, Millie xx

    Hi Mills,

A very warm welcome to our forum. I am sorry to hear about your concerns. Most of us on the forum are not doctors but people with cancer, so I cannot give you a definitive answer.  It is unusual for someone of your age to have cancer, although sadly, it is not impossible. For this reason, young people sometimes need to be quite assertive to get tested properly. Do you have another GP in your practice? If so, perhaps you could make an appointment with him/her to get a second opinion.

Not all swollen lymph nodes are sinister. They can react to a minor infection elsewhere in the body. Most will eventually resolve, but some can remain, in some cases, for life. You will be having a challenging time at school and may be a little run down, which could account for the tiredness, but it is certainly worth getting your symptoms checked out. Here's hoping that it will be good news!

Please keep in touch and let us know how you are getting on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

    Hi Sarah,

I am so glad to hear that you got some comforf frommy reply to Millie, Hopefully your lymph node is only reactive to your psoriasis. Have you seen your GP to confirm this?  If not, please do so, if only for your own peace of mind.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx
