Will a private diagnosis speed my NHS treatment.

I have a facial tumour. The thing feels like it is growing quickly and causes pain. However the consultant won't see me for a long time for tests, then I have a second appointment to discuss tests on December the 1st.

If I paid for a private consultation, tests and then a consultation to reveal results what effect does that have on the NHS treatment? Because I don't know if I have the money for private care.

Will I still have to wait till December 1st for the next step in the process even if, God forbid the news is the worst?

  • Hi david12,

Paying to have this done privately may speed up some intial answers, but it's not really possible to say whether it will lead to quicker treatments / next steps if required, because this will still depend on waiting lists and such in your area and at your hospital.

If you have been told that you will have had all the necessary tests and results by the start of December, that's not too far away - although I can imagine it will feel like it - but of course I can appreciate you want to look into getting things done sooner. There is a bit more information about this on our website here.

If you'd like to talk this through with someone, our nurses are available on 0808 800 4040 - Monday-Friday, 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best,
