Worried about possible stomach/ bowel cancer

Hello,

My mother was diagnosed with bowel cancer when I was 18 and unfortunately passed a few weeks later; I was her carer. I've always had very unpleasant bowel symptoms which were never diagnosed. My mother had two IBDs and I've suspected for a while that I at least have one. About a week ago, I struggled with horrific constipation. This isn't completely unusual for me as I'm either constipated or have diarreah. I have since, however, failed to regain my appetite. I found a lump on the left side of my abdomen a couple of days ago, called 111 and went to a walk-in centre as instructed. I was told that it was "probably a cyst". Since then, I've found multiple lumps/ bumps under the skin in my abdomen. I also have heartburn and awful fatigue. I cant help but worry that it's something serious but I wonder whether I'm just overreacting re the lumps. Is it normal to feel lumps in your abdomen? Are these just natural bumps on my intestines? If this persists, I will be going to a GP within the next week.
thank you for your time

  • Hi hun I'm sorry to hear that you're going through a cancer scare, I am myself am going through bowel issues and I'm worried it could be cancer as like yourself my father was diagnosed with bowel cancer. I'm so sorry to hear about your mum abs unfortunately IBDs do increase the risk of developing bowel cancer if theyre not properly managed so please do go to the doctors as getting diagnosed with your suspected ibd and getting the right medication to control it is really important.
like yourself I gave lumps in my abdomen and the doctor assured me it was scar tissue from my stretch marks (I've had two children and I do have them) the lungs coukd also be lipomas which are just hard fatty tissues in the stomach or anywhere you carry fat.
please do let me know how you get on Charl x
