Hi, 63 year old, relatively fit never any major health issues. Been having urinary problems since my late 40’s. Went to Dr in 2006 DRE normal PSA 1.2.....Walked away happy. Problems getting worse in 2014 go back to Dr. DRE normal PSA 3.3. Dr wants to send me to urology, I ask to take test again, now 3.1 (just over the threshold for my age) Doc agrees to let me off the hook providing I do PSA every 6 months. In 2016 my stable PSA jumps up to 7.5. Panic stations, referred to hospital. Cystoscopy (OK). MRI: PIRADS 4 (small lesion left apex). Trus 12 core biopsy (clear). Trans-Perineal Saturation biopsy (clear). Discharged from hospital but told that I should keep up with PSA testing every 6 months...My PSA remains stable, called back to hospital for another MRI: This time PIRADS 3 small lesion left apex...Speak to the urologist (My PSA is now 3.7). Urologist tells me that he doesn’t think I have “significant” cancer, my prostate is large (70cc) and that I would benefit from a HOLEP procedure. He also says that given the size of my prostate he wouldn’t be concerned unless my PSA went over 10. After reading up in the HOLEP and the potential side effects decided not to go ahead....Since then (2018) my PSA has slowly risen from 3.7 to 4.8 last year.....Left it 9 months and then this July was shocked to find it had risen to 8.4....Having had a false alarm previously I said to the Dr I would retake in 5 weeks time. This time 14.8 (***)....Fast track referral had my MRI yesterday and due to meet Urologist next week. My concern is the extremely fast rising PSA (this was 23rd August) and the fact that since the PSA test I have been having new hip, back and groin pain. I want it to be my overactive imagination but it seems very real. Wishing now I’d had theHOLEP 3 years back, as any cancerous tissue may have shown up then while my levels were still low. Just wanted anyone’s input, especially anybody who has been in a similar boat....Needless to say I’m freaking out a bit with the high numbers and the aches and pains...
Many thanks in advance
Tony
