Smear - high grade severe dyskaryosis

So I had my smear almost 2 months ago and got the results back last week as positive for HPV and high grade severe dyskaryosis! I now have a colposcopy in a few days and I'm absolutely bricking it. I've never thought about it before but after researching online (worst idea ever) I'm thinking the worst! I bled after my smear for almost a week but didn't think anything of it until Google said you shouldn't bleed for more than a few hours. I don't get periods often due to pcos so random bleeding isn't anything to go by. I get constant pain in my pelvic area but I passed it off as being connected to my kidney issues and once kidney was removed blamed it on my hernia. Online says another sign of the worst is bleeding after sex and I spoke to my ex and I always used to bleed after sex. The thing is they say HPV goes away after a year or two but I haven't been sexually active for almost 6 years!

Has anyone had a similar situation or at least the same results on the smear that could tell me how the colposcopy went?

Sorry for the massive essay

  • Please try not to worry (easy said than done)

This happened to me 2 years ago and i honestly spent a week crying and convinced i was dying. I was so worried. I researched online which is how i ended up here and terrified myself.

When i went for my colposcopy they saw the bad cells and removed them there and then as they were severe. This was done by  (i think its called) letzz treatment in which they remove the affected part of the cervix. Not as bad as it sounds! They numb the cervix with a local (worst part, stingy, pressure) then do the loop. Whole thing took a few minutes. Lovely nurse holding my hand the whole time. Afterwards i had some brown discharge for around a week but no bleeding. Had a cup of tea and a biscuit and was allowed home. They sent the sample for tests and it was clear. 6 months later i had a "test of cure" smear. It was clear and free from HPV. I am now back to 3 yearly screening.

    Hope this is helpful x

  • Hi!!

About 6 years ago (when I was 25) I had the same smear results and was sent for colposcopy. I was terrified! Dr google does not help in these situations as I spent days reading and assuming the worst!

Anyway I turned up to my appointment and burst into tears - the nurses were so nice. I had dye injected into the cervix to show up any CIN areas (this didn't hurt btw!) It turned out I had 3 large areas of CIN 3 (pre-cancerous) cells. So they decided to do LLETZ procedure and remove these right away. They injected local anaesthetic and removed the areas for biopsy testing. A week or 2 later I got a letter to say everything had been completed removed. I got 6 monthly smear tests for one year and now I am back to every 3 years with no problems!

good luck, everything will be fine x

  • Thankyou so much for your reply, you've definitely eased my mind a little! I bet it was a relief all coming back clearly! Google really isn't our friend at these times is it xx

  • glad to see the good news that came from yours, I bet it was stressful waiting for the results etc? I agree Dr Google is the worst! I only have the weekend to go and then it's colposcopy day! Xxx

  • Waiting is definitely the worst but they were super quick and the nurses were very reassuring the whole time.

try not to worry (impossible I know) Best of luck to you xx

  • Thankyou! I will update the thread after my colposcopy xxx

  • So I had my colposcopy today. Turns out my cervix was too high for treatment to be done today and my vaginal walls were collapsing. Not sure what that means really. But anyway they finally managed a biopsy and once results are back will be booking in for the LEETZ treatment under general anaesthetic as they couldn't do it under local today xxx
