Positive hpv and high grade dyskaryosis

Finally got my smear results back and it's showing positive hpv and high grade dyskaryosis. Next step is a colopsy. Sorry can't spell and wasn't in my autocorrect.   Iv had brown discharge since May and the odd feeling of being in my period. I don't get periods due to the implant.   Just feeling abit worried and can't talk to anyone at the moment.  Anyone been in the same situation. Thanks xxx

  • Hi Bistomom

High grade dyskariosis means that you need a colposcopy (which is a detailed examination of the cervix with a liquid applied to enable the doctor to better see the area of abnormal cells). These abnormal cells are not cancer but should be removed. They are caused by the HPV virus, but the procedure to remove them is quick and straightforward. Try not to worry too much at the moment-the screening test has done its job of picking up abnormal cells, and they can be dealt with now, long before they ever turn to cancer.

I hope you get your colposcopy appointment soon to put your mind at rest. x
