Colposcopy and biopsy

Hi ladies,

I am new to this forum. I have read some of your stories and whilst it's such a worrying time it's helped to hear I'm not alone.

My journey so far - 3 weeks ago I noticed a strange odour which was after I had my period I initially thought oh no maybe I've left a tampon in and tried to check myself, then I started to have pain in my lower back on both the right & lefts sides then I had abnormal bleeding a few days later.

I called my GP and went down for an examination, she didn't find a tampon, but a tiny amount of cotton wool which must of been left so she took that out. She noticed some imflamation so treated it as a possible pelvic inflammatory infection I had a 2 week course of very strong antibiotics to take. GP also decided to refer me for an urgent colposcopy hopefully within 2 weeks. I luckily got my appt through and had it last week. The Dr did the colposcopy and found I think 2 lumps at.neck of my womb so carried out a biopsy (all.was a bit of a blur and not what I was expecting).

Dr and nurse said the sample he took would be tested and results will take 4 to 6 weeks!

I began bleeding again which he said may happen but the bleeding lasted a week. Today I went back to.see my GP, I explained I am very worried and that the lower back pain isn't shifting even taking paracetamol or ibroprofen only takes the edge off so I can take codeine if I need to. GP also took bloods today to check my blood count, kidneys,.thyroid. she was reassuring but understood I will be anxious.

So now it's a waiting game to see what the results will be.

I have always had smear tests on time and all have been normal, I've had regular periods and never had abnormal bleeding before. Like some of the stories I've read I know I'm not right, but maybe I'm thinking too much about it and thinking I'm worse than I am if that makes sense.

I'm 47 not started the menopause yet but could these symptoms be a sign of that?.

Would really appreciate anyones thoughts or advice right now as I'm really anxious :(

Many thanks,

Jo x

  • Hello Jo and a very warm welcome to Cancer Chat!

I hope you won't have to wait too long for your biopsy results. This waiting game is so stressful and something many of our members will relate to.

I know it is really hard but try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be. The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are also some useful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for important news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,
