Melanoma biopsy results

Does any one know on average from the time biopsy is taken how long does it take to get results. What's people experiences of be seen with the 2 week urgent cancer reffferal to hospital specialist. I  have enlarged lymph nodes for few months and found 2 very suspicious moles that looks like melanoma. The reason why I am so certain is I am ex nurse and my 0artner died few years ago initially stagedv4, he only lived a for 8 months and had awful death. So I am very anxious understandnly.

I be grateful for feedback on things I mentioned. Ex Nurse's make the worst patients

  • Hi Mike,

I'm so sorry to hear of your partner's passing. Was it melanoma that they suffered from? If so, please know that treatment of melanoma has moved on in the last few years and many Stage 4 patients are now living with the disease for several years and some have no evidence of the disease anymore so the outlook is much more optimistic than it once was.

At the moment some hospitals are managing to see patients just within the 2 week period whilst others are taking up to 3 weeks. Initial excision surgery used to be within 2 weeks but is now anything between 2 and 5 weeks. Results are then taking an average of 6 weeks. Have you seen your GP yet? I know how worried you must be, especially with your past experience, but there is still a chance your moles are benign and the swollen nodes are unconnected.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

Angie (Stage 3 melanoma patient since 2009)
