Split nipple

Looking for people that have also had a split nipple and would like to hear your stories as I keep seeing about lumps in breasts but nothing about slit/split nipple, so I had my son in March and in January I noticed I had a split/slit left nipple i put it down to changes due to being pregnant, a couple of months after having my son it was still there and I was getting alot of breast pain I phoned the doctors and only had an over the phone consultation and the doctor said he wasn't concerned as you don't usually get pain with breast cancer, the pains seemed to have disappeared not long after but they have now come back and the split/slit nipple is still there i phoned gp again and was seen by a nurse she looked and had a feel around and said she couldn't feel any lumps anywhere and the lympne nodes all felt fine and she wasn't worried but she is referring me to breast clinic as the split/slit nipple is still a change and needs to be checked out im just really worried she said it can take upto 4 weeks for me to get an appointment I feel this is so long to wait for 30 year old mum to wait that has 2 kids aged 6 months and 7 years and thinking the worst

Sorry for the long post but would love to hear some stories of other people that have been through the same whether its positive or negative stories

  • Hello Kirstyb30

I'm sorry to hear that you've had some ongoing breast changes since your pregnancy. it's understandable that you're feeling anxious about things. I'm not sure if we have any members here who have experience with the same issue, hopefully, if we do they will post to share their stories.

I do know that we have many ladies here who will understand how worrying it can be when you're waiting for an appointment at breast clinic. It might help you to know that the vast majority of people seen by a specialist in breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. It's also really reassuring that the practice nurse didn't have any immediate concerns when she examined you.

Sometimes it can help to talk things through with someone and I'd really encourage you to give our team of nurses a call. I'm sure they will be able to give you some advice, information, and support to help whilst you're waiting for your appointment. If you would like to chat with them they're available Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm on 0808 800 4040.

Do let us know how you get on.

    Best wishes,
