Symptoms of cervical cancer?

Hello,

For almost a month now I have had daily pain in my pelvis, like a dull ache, the sort of pain you get right before your period. After a couple of days of the pain I contacted my GP, he advised a swab test for BV (as I had recently had it) and an ultrasound scan.  The swab came back positive for BV, so I was given strong antibiotics.  I also done a home STI test to rule out that, all negative.
I had my ultrasound on Saturday and everything was normal.  For the past 2 weeks I have also had abnormal bleeding, fresh blood, on and off, and the pains in my pelvis are getting worse.

I have taken 3 pregnancy tests to rule that out, all negative, I've also had my period around 10 days ago which was the same as usual (I am on combi pill).

Last year, October,  I had my first ever smear (I hadn't been old enough in the past, and then fell pregnant). The smear showed I have HPV and would need to have another smear this October.
My GP seems to think there is no cause for concern, but this is just driving me mad now, the worry and the constant pain and bleeding.
It's not an excruciating pain, but it's there whenever I'm resting.
I have booked in for a smear test this coming Friday, but I just feel so anxious.

Are pelvic pain and abnormal bleeding symptoms of cervical cancer?

My gp doesn't believe there is anything sinister going on as my ultrasound was normal?  But on the ultrasound it mentioned my uterus, ovaries and endometrium, no mention of cervix? Would a trans abdominal ultrasound show anything on my cervix?

Sorry for the long post but I don't have anyone else I can talk to about it and it's reallt worrying me.

Thank you x

  • Hello Sherelle,

I just wanted to say hello and make a comment, as I can see there haven't been any replies yet. It is really scary when you are experiencing bleeding/symptoms that are unusual for you. I don't know how the infections you describe affect periods, but it might be possible that the GP thinks your cycle will calm down and go back to how it was before.

I am currently waiting for test results from a transvaginal ultrasound scan, after months of pelvic pain and bleeding. It is a worry, but I hope the results will tell me more about what is happening inside. It could be fibroids or something.

My instinct is that your GP would request a scan or more tests if they had concerns. I would perhaps give yourself another month to see if things resolve and if you are still having problems, report back to them.

Hope you are feeling better soon,

  • Hello,

Thank you so much for your reply, I really appreciate it.
I only had an abdominal ultrasound not a transvaginal ultrasound, so I'm wondering weather the trans abdominal would actually show my cervix?

Hopefully with the smear test on Friday, the nurse will do a proper examination to see if there is anything that looks abnormal.
Hope your results come back positive for you xx

  • So I went for my smear today, the nurse said it my cervix looks okay but she did find a polyp so has done a referral to gynaecology.  I asked if this could be causing the pelvic pain but she said she didn't think so.

I am bleeding slightly after my smear.  I am still getting the pelvic pain, quite bad at times.  Has anyone had anything similar?

    Thank you
