Lump in breast at 23

Hello,

I have developed a lump in my breast and armpit over the last few months. I'm getting more and more worried as the days go on. I feel like screaming.

I found a lump in my breast a few months ago, I had put on some weight during the pandemic so put it down to an inflamed something. Another one then appeared in my arm, and sometimes I got shooting pains. After a few weeks I decided I needed it checking out for my mental health. I initially had ad appointment with a GP, she examined me and said that my breast were 'abnormally lumpy' so she would refer me. I initally got a letter telling me, breast pain wasn't  significant enough for me to see a doctor. When I spoke to her she said her response said something else. After giving in my letter for her to read, she left a voicemail saying if your still concerned come see me. In this time, the breast in question has grown considerably large compared to the other. So naturally I booked another appointment, but this time I was seen by another doctor. He told me he had ran the breast department in the nearby hospital for 40 years, so he's fairly trained for this. Which was a massive relief for me, finally someone could reassure me. He told me he has never seen breast cancer in early 20's so I wasn't to worry. He then examined me, and said that I did in fact have lumps in both armpit and breast. So he would refer me for an ultrasound. Now im back to worrying, I don't know what to think or how long this is going to take. Could anyone, I know you can't guarantee anything but someone who has went through this or knows, tell me if my symptoms sound like breast cancer or just fatty tissue. I've had family history of cancer, but not breast so I've no one to turn to and ask for this.

    Hi Sugarpuff,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms, but just want to reassure you that you are doing the right thing in getting this investigated. If your referral was for the breast clinic, you should be seen within 2 weeks from the date that your GP referred you. However, it sounds as if your GP has just referred you for an ultrasound at your local hospital. Waiting times for this can vary throughout the country. Why not phone your x-ray department and ask them roughly how long their waiting list is?

Please let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

As you said yourself, none of us can predict the outcome, although it would be very unlikely to have cancer at your age.

  • Hi lovely I'm 29 & this morning I'm going to the breast clinic for an ultrasound for similar issues. The nurse discovered lumps in my armpits that I didn't even know were there after two lots of antibiotics they have gone and the lump in my breast has gone down but is still there hence my referral. I'm trying to stay positive, I will let you know how I get on. Go with the mantra it's nothing until it's something x
