My partner has seen the GP about blood in her stool. The GP has identified some of her symptoms may be cancer so has made an urgent referral for an endoscopy. I understand there is a two week rule that means they should be investigated within that time frame and it's treated urgently.
However, what she's got is a video appointment to talk to a specialist tomorrow. She has also been given an appointment for a diagnostic endoscopy, but the first appointment is 77 days away in December which is hardly urgent. I can't see how this video appointment is going to be helpful unless she puts the phone up her bum.
We are quite worried because obviously nearly 3 months is a long time to wait to be properly diagnosed. Is the video appointment a tricksy way of meeting targets by saying the patient was seen by a specialist within the time frame? Or will she get an appointment quickly after getting the video appointment? We are considering going private if the wait really will be that long.
