Constipation

I have been constipated for a few months now a new change nothing else new has happened or changed that i know off maybe a bit more stressed with life/work. I'm terrible for not drinking enough so have made that a priorty and im on laxido from my GP which is making things a bit better! Is this likely just a bit of stress / constipation and not anything sinister i have the occassional sore stomach/bloating with it but no blood or other symptoms just heavy and round stools when i go to the toilet. I get some odd sensations in my bum aswell sometimes like an itching/ just weird sensation.

  • It could be Irritable Bowel Syndrome but an ovarian cyst can cause constipation. Abdominal bloating that is persistent and doesn't go away is a sign of an ovarian cyst or ovarian cancer. If you have it for 2 or 3 weeks and it's not going away, ask your GP for a Ca125 blood test. Is the bloating causing weight gain throughout the day? Have dietary changes had any effect?

  • I've not actually changed my diet i've just tried to drink 2 litres per day and i take my laxido sachet daily i'm able to go to the toilet daily or every other day so it's not constipation that its weeks at a time or anything it's just when i go it's hard and heavy.

i don't get bloating that often it's just now and again i'll get a sore stomach and bloating and i assumed it was from the constipation thing just strange it seems to have appeared out of nowhere alongside spots actually when i usually have clear skin! Maybe it is stress ‍♀️

  • Oh I had adult acne as well with the ovarian cyst. Have you tried to increase your fibre intake? If you add 2tbsp ground flaxseed to oats or yoghurt each day, that should help as well as walking for 30-60 mins per day and eating slowly. Drink 150ml water per tbsp flaxseed as it's bulky (just drink 500ml bottle of water). The flaxseed is more natural than the sachets- the bowel movement feels more natural. Chia seed is great as well for bloating and fibre. Kiwis, prune juices, dried prunes, wholegrains (look for 6g/100g in bread). Drink lots of water to keep digestion tract moving. I only had to take sachets twice- I took a movicol sachet that caused bad bloating once and worked the other time. Nothing wrong with sachets, don't get me wrong but the flaxseed is brilliant.

I would advise you to keep an eye on your symptoms. I had very similar symptoms and then started experiencing very heavy bleeding in between periods, went to GP, was referred for ultrasound and was diagnosed with an ovarian cyst. Changes in digestion can be a symptom of cancer. The ovaries are located beside the bowel and bladder. I'm not an expert but just be vigilant.

  • Thanks so much for your info i'll defs try these things i think tbh my diet and fluid intake should defs 100% be better! I'm going to phone me GP next week for bloods as i often get low folic acid and feel like it might be low again with feeling *** etc hopefully its just a poor diet and its catching up on me! I'm a fussy eater especially on the veg front which isn't helping probably

i'll look into all these things though thankyou!
