Breast scan

Hello, I have had a lump on my right breast since I was 17 (I'm 26 now) I had it checked out twice when I was younger and both times they said it was pea size. I had another check today as I still have it. The doctor said she doesn't think there is anything to worry about and said I could go for a scan to find out what it is so I'm just waiting for the call back now for my appointment. She said it was 1-2cm which made me nervous. I get pretty bad health anxiety and now I'm absolutely petrified that it's going to be bad news :(

  • Hello Ajtx95

I'm sorry to hear that you have some concerns about this breast lump at the moment. It's important to get any lump checked out and if you've noticed some changes then you've done exactly the right things in going back to your GP.

It may help you to know that the vast majority of women who attend breast clinic are not diagnosed with cancer. Try to take things a day at a time and remain positive that there could be many other nonserious reasons for this lump.

If you'd like to chat with one of our nurses for some support and reassurance you're welcome to call them on 0808 800 4040, Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm. In the meantime, you may find it helpful to have a look at the NHS website for some tips and advice about managing health anxiety.

I hope you have some news soon.
