Positive experience of a colonoscopy

I had an abnormal bowel cancer screeing test so was invited for a colonoscopy  I was terrified because of the procedure itself and what the finding could be.  The bowel prep was OK.  It wasn't that nasty and I just got on with it.  No vomitting or retching.  Lots of trips to the toilet!.  The colonoscopy was fine.  I decided not to have midazolam but only fentanlyn which is a stong pain filler.  It was fascinating to watch the screen and to ask questions.  There were a couple of painful moments but only lasted a few seconds - mostly cramps rather than horrible pain.  I had four polyps removed.  One was very big so was probably pre cancerous so am so grateful.  I need a colonscopy in three years.  I will nto be scared at all of this.

  • I'm really pleased your colonoscopy went well and it wasn't as scary as you first thought.

I'm sure your post will really help some of our members who are waiting to have this done so thank you for sharing your experience with us.

In the meantime, I hope the results of the biopsies bring good news when they come through.

    All the best,
