Enlarged lymph node in neck getting bigger and one under arm

My little boy is 6 years old he has had swollen lymph nodes in his neck since end of December. He lost a kg of weight in a few weeks so had blood tests in February which were normal but with reduced iron. The lymph nodes are still raised and he has been having night sweats where he is drenched and has been complaining of a tummy ache, always saying he is tired. He had a repeat blood test again showing the same results and was again referred to the paediatrician who discharged him as was not concerned. Since then I feel that the one in his neck has enlarged and is now around 20mm and more almond shape than round. At the paediatrician appointment he found an enlarged lymph node under his left arm, which I had never felt before it is still there 3 weeks later and is the size of a pea. He also says he occasionally brings up sick into his mouth and then swallows it. I want to go back to the GP as I feel that the one in his neck has increased in size and changed shape but I am concerned that they will say I am being silly and wasting their time.

  • Hello Sunnysundays,

I am sorry to hear about your little boy's swollen lymph nodes. I can imagine this is a rather worrying time for you. You have done the right thing to get it all checked properly and it's good news that the paediatrician did not find anything concerning. However as you noticed that the lymph node in his neck has increased in size and changed shape, it would be a good idea to go back to the GP and get it checked. They won't say you are being silly or wasting their time, that's what they are there for and it's good to have any change in his lymph nodes looked at and any new symptom investigated. So make sure you give them a call and book an appointment and you could also mention the fact that your son told you that he has had this sickness issue.

I hope you get some definite answers soon!

    Best wishes,
