Why has cancer nurse been assigned before any cancer prognos

Hi my husband is due to have a CT scan after a shadow was found on his lungs during a chest X-ray. After the scan he will have a chat with a cancer nurse. Why is that? Why would he have to speak with a cancer nurse before they have confirmed the results? Is this normal? Has anyone here had this where the results were not cancer but prior to that had a cancer nurse assigned to them? Any idea? Thanks

  • Hello Serenity40

I'm sorry to hear that your husband is dealing with some health concerns and waiting on more investigations. I can see from another of your posts that his appointment is today so hopefully you will both have some firmer information by the end of the day.

It's not uncommon for people who are having investigations for suspected cancer to be allocated a nurse before a firm diagnosis is given. This can be because the nurse is then able to act as a point of contact and a source of information and support during the process. Hopefully the appointment today will give you both a clearer idea of the situation and what the next steps are for your husband.

Do let us know how he gets on.

    Best wishes,

Thank you for your reply we have the results and it's clear thank god. Such a relief as life was on hold whilst we waited for results.
