Lump’s in neck!

Hi everyone, first post here!

Sorry in advance for probably a long post.. looking for some positive outcomes!

I'm 24 and about 9 months ago I felt 2 pea sized lumps in the back of my neck, just below my hair line. They did not hurt and are not visible, they can only be identified by touching. At first they used to come and go and after 6 weeks I thought I'd speak to my GP. I was booked in for a telephone consultation and she said they were probably just lymph nodes and not to worry. I was advised to call back for a face to face appointment if they hadn't disappeared within the next 6 weeks. 6 weeks passed and they were still there so I was booked in for a face to face appointment where again she reassured me they were just lymph nodes.

Anyway... about 4 months on they are still there and my neck has started to feel stiff, I can't quite explain the feeling but it's like a dull ache and it's been constant for the past week. Again I booked a doctors appointment and saw another doctor for bloods, the results have came back which are clear but she referred me for an ultrasound just to be on the safe side.

Im waiting for the appointment to come through, but has anyone had something similar? My neck just aches and now feels quite hard to touch on the one side and the 2 lumps are still there. I'm starting to worry it could be something more sinister?

Thankyou, H xx

  • Hi harrietjem11,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I can understand this kind of uncertainty is always unsettling, but it's good to hear the doctors don't seem too concerned. The referral is good as it will mean you get some definite answers before too long, and you've done everything right in seeing the doctor to try to get these answers.

It's easier said than done but try not to worry too much and focus on keeping busy while you wait to help keep your mind off any worries. I hope that the appointment comes around soon for you.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben
