Small changing mole

Hi everyone hope your all well!

I have a 2mm mole on my left leg that I recently noticed has changed. It has two little dark dots in it. One dot in the middle and one dot at bottom edge.

I went to my gp and he has referred me to dermatologist within four weeks.. by now I have been waiting a week so I have 3 weeks to wait still, my go said if it has grown in two weeks iv to make a go appointment straight away while waiting on the dermatologist appointment I'm terrified in case it is something serious and spreads by the time my dermatologist see's me.

I recently found out I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I have 3 wonderful kids.

I had a mole cut out my back last year that came back atypical.

worried sick and I'd love a bit of support during this worrying time. Sorry for the long read!

thanks

  • Hey Jessica

I know how you feel I had a black mole on my back went to my GP expecting to be told it was fine , she referred me for urgent referral, I was seen today and advised that it was abnormal and it would be removed next Friday and I would have to wait 4 weeks for results . Like you I am sick out of my mind x

  • Aw it's absolutely terrifying! Hope all is ok let me know how you get on. I have my dermatologist appointment on the 15th October it's going so slow. I seen my obstetrics doctor yesterday and he said my mole is fine but I'm still worried. I have health anxiety aswell which doesn't make it any easier. X

  • Hi Jessica,

Please try not to worry too much about the wait between appointments. There is little to no chance it will effect any spread (if it turns out to be malignant) so try to take comfort in that.

Pregnancy can cause a change in existing moles and new ones to appear. Most are found to be fine so hopefully yours will be the same. Your GP is following NICE guidelines and is being proactive which is good because hopefully the expert dermatologist will be able to calm your fears. Don't panic if they want to remove it for biopsy, most results come back clear. My niece has had two moles removed during pregnancy and both were dysplastic (pre cancerous) so try to distract your thoughts until your appointment.

Good luck and please let us know how you get on.

  • H Aoife,

Good luck with your surgery and results. Only 5% of dermatology patients are found to have melanoma whilst 20% have dysplastic (pre cancerous) moles - the rest get clear results so they odds for good results are in your favour. Please let us know how you get on.

  • Hi Jessica

Wondering how you got on ? I received my results yesterday and unfortunately it was a melenoma that was 0.6m deep so they tell me its stage 1 , I am due to go for a WLE . Very anxious and worried which I am sure is normal x
