34 and found a lump in my breast

Hi,

I'm 34 and I've recently found quite a large lump in my breast. I check myself regularly as I suffer with small pea sized cysts, but this one is different... its quite large and sits to the back. I've no idea how I missed it, its changed the shape of my boob and I'm really worried. I have an emergency appointment at the clinic next week. Feeling really alone and scared right now as its completely different to the ones I usually suffer with.

Any support much appreciated

    Hi Katie,

A very warm welcome to our forum.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms. You are doing the right thing by getting this checked out. This is always a scary wait, but here's hoping that it is still ok. The fact that you check yourself regularly, should mean that, even if the worst does happen, you have caught it early.

Is your appointment next week with your GP or the breast clinic? Do you have any support from family or friends? This can be a big help. Try to keep yourself busy to help pass the time until your appointment.

Please keep in touch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi Jolamine,

Thanks so much for the response. The appointment is with the breast clinic, the gp referred me the same day which concerns me. My appointment has come through really quick aswell... atleast I don't have to worry for asong though! Support circle isn't great, I don't want to worry anyone, although I know it will help.

    Thankyou,

    Hi Katie,

This is the best place to get checked out. We all have to be seen within 2 weeks of referral, so please don't worrry about the speed of all this. Only 1 person in every 8 who attend the breast clinic will get a cancer diagnosis, so I still have my fingers crossed for you.

I am sorry to hear that you don't have a great support circle, but we are always here for you.

    Kind regards,

    Jolamine xx

  • Hi

I would echo the other comments made. The chances of you having breast cancer at age 34 are 0.5%.

Most people referred to the breast clinic will have a benign reason for their lump.

it's good you've been proactive and are getting it checked out x

  • My breast duct problem started at 24 after breast feeding my daughter, lots of surgery later fortunately not cancer but they keep saying that the mammogram ect is just a snapshot on the day, l have a open appointment at breast clinic l think l have a season ticket. Not every lump is suspect l glad you are getting an appointment for reassurance or treatment, take care maybe write down any questions and take it with you we all forget the things we should ask.

    kind regards

  • Hey, I hope you are seen to soon, it seems you acted on it fast and so has your GP, I can't help but read comments as I was in a similar position to you back in April, comments saying about age and your too young aren't really helpful and it doesn't give awareness to the reality of what actually goes on in the real world, I don't want to put negative vibes your way as yes it is lower in younger people but at the same time a lot more younger people are getting mis diagnosed due to comments saying your to young to have cancer.
That word scares us all, and there are many lumps out there which mean all different things.
since April I have undergone 2 breast surgery's and radiotherapy, due to being mis-diagnosed 3 years ago because they did not expect it to be cancer.
I now have 5 ovary cysts , 3 which are complex dermoid cysts and I'm having to have them removed to find out if they are malignant or not .
I am only 33 years of age , I have 3 children. Always go with your gut instinct, and get checked how ever minor you think things are.
My breast lump was a malignant Phylloid tumor , which was diagnosed wrong previously , a second opinion got it correct and I was booked in for surgery 2 weeks later.
I wish you all the best, and I hope you receive good news , always chase up for appointments if they are taking longer than expected.
