Bloating and ovarian cancer

Hi everyone

I'm just wondering how people actually experience "Bloating" and stomach distension, two of the listed as symptoms of ovarian cancer. I am awaiting a blood test from the GP and have had bloating/distended tummy every day for 2 months now - however this is only later in the day, each morning my stomach is completely normal. Would this be in line with other peoples experience, as I find the internet doesn't go in to much detail about these symptoms?

  • Hi Charlotte123456,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. It sounds like you've seen your GP and are still waiting for results / a diagnosis - hopefully you'll find out more soon, in the meantime try not to assume anything. It's usually best to wait for the outcome of any tests and to get the doctor's thoughts.

I hope it's not much longer to wait for your results and I hope that you get answers and that things ease soon.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • Are you awaiting a Ca125 blood test?

I gain weight throughout the day due to the bloating from my ovarian cyst but in the morning, my weight is normal. My cyst is large, 10cm, so my abdominal bloating has been really severe. I've also had constipation, wind, increased urinary frequency, fatigue. I'm due to get the cyst removed tomorrow and a biopsy will be taken to see if it's benign. I've been told there's a high chance it's benign so hopefully the biopsy will confirm this.

After your blood test, you'll probably be referred for an ultrasound and MRI. A lot of ovarian cysts are benign and the Ca125 levels can be elevated if you have other gynaecological issues like fibroids (that's what I've been told anyway..if I'm wrong, someone can feel free to correct me!)

Hang in there..I know it's nerve wracking waiting for results x

  • Hey

i haven’t had the test yet due to the blood test tube shortage. I’ll be ringing up again later this week to chase it up. The GP thinks it’s more likely IBS/food intolerance but I’m just not buying it. I am a massive worrier anyway though and part of me is thinking perhaps my stomach always got a bit bigger as the day goes on with general eating/drinking and now I’m just fixated on it x

  • I thought I had IBS too..even went to a dietitian! I cut out wheat, fizzy drinks, salt, alcohol..still got bloating, constipation but it was intermittent/not all the time. My GP still thinks I have IBS! I was obsessed with my stomach..it's so stressful. Keep an eye on your symptoms..literally track them..when does the bloating occur, when is it worst, how long have you had it. Once you can document and log it, GP will have to take it seriously.

  • My daughter had an ovarian cyst when she was pregnant the size of a grapefruit she looked huge when only 13 weeks , the cyst was excised at 15=weeks worrying due to pregnancy and possible miscarriage. Fortunately fine. Cysts can be benign so nothing to worry about also quite big. Your results will give you an idea of what's up and gp can refer on to clinic

    hope all's well
