Pain in left ovary

Hi All,

I am 43 and have been having bleeding between periods. In my 20's I had a colposcopy and had treatment for CN2 cells. 10years ago I also had treatment for endometriosis on my cervix.

My periods have sometimes become irregular and I've had spotting etc but this time it is accompanied by other symptoms.  I went to my GP about it Sept 20 as was having regular spotting and had a smear which came back clear and also blood tests which were ok. These last couple of months though the bleeding has been heavier (like a light period rather than spotting) and my last period was for 22 days. I have also needed to wee frequently (every 30mins) and my stomach feels full. When I walk for a distance I am getting heartburn which I've never had before other than when pregnant. The thing that is worrying me most is I have a pinching feeling where my left ovary would be. Now this has been on/off for probably a year and I've always just dismissed it but it has been there almost constant now this last 2 months and is getting worse.

My GP ordered another swab and the nurse said there was some bloody discharge but that my cervix looked fine. That then came back clear but my GP referred me to the hospital and in 2 weeks I have a Colposcopy and an Ultrasound booked.

I'm trying not to worry but it's on my mind constantly. Has anyone had something similar? I was thinking of booking a private scan today but not sure what would happen if anything was found...I couldn't afford to start treatment privately. Thank you x

  • Hi Whitenoise,

Welcome to Cancer Chat. I'm sorry to hear of the difficulties you've been experiencing. It's good to hear that you've seen your doctor and that you have a referral in place. It may be best to wait the two weeks for your appointment rather than looking at alternatives, but of course this is up to you.

I hope that the appointment leads to some answers for you. In the meantime try to take things a day at a time, and hopefully you'll receive further replies here if there are others with similar experience.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Ben

  • I thought I would update here in case someone, at some point has similar symptoms. I had my colposcopy today and they found some polyps which they asked if I would like removed immediately. I had a hysteroscopy procedure which I found really uncomfortable even though most women say it is fine. The consultant asked multiple times if I wanted to stop but I just wanted it to be over.  Not sure why I found it painful - I've had 2 long births using only G&A so my pain threshold is quite good - maybe I was just too tense and not much time to mentally prepare as I wasn't expecting treatment today. The irregular bleeding could have been caused by the polyps but not the pain on the left. Anyway, glad that bit is over. They also did a smear and a biopsy, not sure if that is standard. They did say they would give me a leaflet but I was a bit shaky afterwards and forgot to remind them. I will have the results within 8wks they said.

The consultant also had a feel of my left side and said it feels bulky and to see what scan shows tomorrow. Maybe fibroids- lots of my family have these and I suggested it to my GP at our last appointment. He dismissed it saying I would have very heavy bleeding if it was fibroids but a quick Google scan shows that they don't always cause bleeding. Hoping to get some further answers tomorrow.
