Neck lump

Hi I have jist got out of hospital was admitted yesterday with suspected mastoiditis, turns out it wasn't was put on iv antibiotics. Anyway when u first arrived an ent doctor examined my neck and said she was concerned about a lump and that I would need an ultrasound today.

This morning a different ent doctor examined my neck and did not seem concerned at all so I had no ultrasound and was discharged with a 7 day course of antibiotics. I cant help but think that the first doctor was right and I should of pushed for the ultrasound im constantly feeling my neck. Ive got pain where the suspected lump is and into my ear. Basically I'm an anxious mess and regretting letting them discharge me. Has anyone got any reassuring advice or been through similar?

  • I'm sorry for the conflicting information you received from the ENT doctors and for how it's left you feeling Sophmia1518.

Why don't you see how you get on with the antibiotics and if after the 7 days you can still feel the lump and having pain, book an appointment with your GP, explain the situation and see if they can refer you for an ultrasound?

Hopefully some of our members who have been in a similar situation will offer their thoughts and advice to you soon but in the meantime I hope these tips will help keep your anxiety at bay.

    Kind regards,

  • Thank you for your reply, the lump is still there and I have been back to my GP who thinks it is a swollen lymph node but has referred me for an ultrasound anyway. I am extremely worried although it isn't an urgent referral as she said it may take 6-8 weeks for the appointment so im guessing/hoping that's a good sign.
