Referred for cervical cancer what happens now? Scared

So my GP has referred me to the gynae team as I've been having strange bleeding, fluid and pains and now have found a smooth pea sized lump on the top of my cervix. my HPV was negative but my GP seems concerned and mentioned cancer.

can anyone tell me what the next steps are? Does this sound like cancer? I'm terrified as I have a 5 year old and a 1 year old.

  • Hi Hayley

Sorry to see you are feeling so anxious-it’s understandable when you have symptoms but don’t yet know the cause.

No-one here can second guess what might be wrong, but typically when you are referred you will have a chat to the gynaecologist about your symptoms, and then will be examined and things will go from there depending on what is found. I’ve seen so many ladies over the years find themselves with lumps and bumps which turn out to be nothing serious at all, so try not to let your thoughts run away with themselves at this early stage and assume the worst as it’s too early to say what may be the matter.
