Referred to gastro enterology and chest x-ray - very anxious

Hi everyone

After à year of very localised abdominal pain (around belly button), weight loss and lack of appetite, I have done several tests that have come back normal: endoscopy with biopsy, colonoscopy, abdominal MRI with small bowel prep.

One year on, my appetite is still really hit and miss and the two tender points in my abdomen are still painful when pressed. My B12 is high so GP is concerned we might be missing something. He has referred me for a chest X-ray, blood tests, stool blood test and said he will refer me to gastro enterology

Part of me was hoping he'd diagnose something benign like a hernia or adhesion but i'm now really anxious about all the tests and feel like maybe we did actually miss something

I have a 2 years old and we are trying for a second child and i'm not sure what to do, I have a lump in the throat thinking about the worse. I'm finding having to wait for the tests, results and not knowing what's next guy wrenching

Anyone has gone through this and things ended up being ok? I'm grateful my GP is being careful but can't shake the feeling that something might be wrong and feeling so incredibly anxious about it

  • Hello cgz,

It is normal to be anxious as you are waiting to find out more about what has been causing these issues for so long. It's good though that they are being thorough and you have now been referred and they are going to try and find out the cause of all these symptoms. Try not to worry too much or anticipate what it might be as there could be so many other reasons that explain these issues.

The best thing to do to avoid thinking too much about this is to keep busy and distracted if you can and avoid looking things up online. I can imagine it is hard for you to do this at the moment but it will help you feel a little less anxious. There are some helpful tips on this page to help you cope while waiting for news.

I hope you will also hear from others here who have been through all this before and that they will be along soon to share their story with you.

Keeping everything crossed for you that everything turns out fine.

    Best wishes,

  • Thanks Lucie - my chest x-ray came back as normal and I'm getting the capsule endoscopy and ultrasound next week. It's all I can think about at the moment and distraction is not helping, I've been feeling so nauseated and now I can't help thinking this is all related

I'm taking some comfort in that the MRI, endoscopy and colonoscopy were normal but it's quite hard to wait, this weekend is going to be tough
