LLETZ results

Hiya,

I have recently undergone an LLETZ procedure to remove some pre-cancerous cells that were found during my biopsy (I am 27 and have had HPV detected 3 smear tests in a row with the 3rd smear also showing abnormal cells, hence then need for a colposcopy and biopsy).

I was a bit flustered after the procedure so may not have been concentrating fully, however, the nurse said that I would get results from the LLETZ in 4 weeks time. I was wondering what sort type of results (worst-case scenario) could come back? Can they determine a spread or cell change during an LLETZ?

I was under the illusion that after the LLETZ, it would just be a case of having a smear test again in 6 months time to ensure that everything worked?

Any feedback from anyone who has had the LLETZ procedure and can enlighten me on what happens next will be great! :)

  • Hey hun,

I was in the same position as your 3 years ago and am actually back up again tomorrow for another colposcopy after low grade changes and hpv...

I had lettz 2 and a half years ago for the same thing and I had my results within 4 weeks to tell me that I was hpv negative and no abnormalities.. and then a follow up smear was down 6 months after..

It's the wait that kills me, fingers crossed tomorrow I won't need lettz

  • Hi there

I had my LLETZ procedure today after the colposcopy biopsy results that came back as CIN2.

The weird thing is that initial smear test showed mild or low grade dyskaryosis and then colposcopy showed CIN2...

I THOUGHT same as you that after LLETZ we would just wait 6 months to see if treatment was successful but now I have to wait again for the results.. I cannot help but think that I might have a more serious issue like CIN3 or sth worse...

When will you get your biopsy results?

    Hi,

I'm in a similar position here too, 3 smears showing hpv. Most recent one stated borderline cell changes. My biopsy result has come back with CIN2. Now awaiting a date for the lletz procedure and im not looking forward to it as I was in agony during my biopsies.

I have heard that usually with the lletz treatment they send off the tissue to ensure they have removed all of the affected area. I believe each grade of CIN basically means how deep into the surface of your cervix the cell changes are.

So hopefully you will get a letter that says they have successfully removed all the abnormal cells. I hope this helps put your mind at ease while you wait.

Wishing you the best for your results

  • Hi for others wondering about results from lletz its been only 7 days and my gynaecologist has called me last night to say my high graderan deeper than normal and that after doing a biopsy of the bit of cervix taken out at my lletz treatment that I have early cancer changes which is now more worrying. I now have to wait for the whole team to go over my results and decide what treatment will be best.  She said as I hadn't had a smear for 17 year im now 39 that shows how long it takes precancerous cells to change please anyone reading thisGO FOR YOUR SMEARS LADIES! I was always just too embarrassed and now being told how lucky I am that they have caught this in time . I'm a mother of 2 and this has knocked me For six

  • Hi Loulou1984

im in the same position I've been to the hospital today after my Lletz and been told my cells are cancerous but not been told anything else, what stage I'm at if it's curable nothing just that I have to go for a MRI then possible lletz, hysterectomy or radiopheropy as treatment. I've always had unclear smears but now I feel like I'm stuck in a hole. I just want to have a hysterectomy be clear and be done with it

  • I've said the exact same thing I'd have a hysterectomy and be done. She did say it's very early but nothing more than that. they have team meetings twice a month so I'd need to wait 2 weeks till they go over my slides and decide what treatment I'll be getting .I'm 39 how old are you? I hope everything goes well  for u and I understand how worried u are.

  • Hi Loulou1984

im 39 also, I'm sure they told me it's early too but as I haven't had children my cervix is very small. I've been told I need an MRI then they will go through treatments, I asked if it was cancer or pre cancer cells and was told as the cells are showing signs of being cancerous they will treat it as a cancer. I should get my appointment for my MRI within 10 days but as my husband has just gone through testicular cancer I can't afford to be off work so hoping for a swift treatment

  • You've been through a lot that's awful.  I hope for both of you it's a quick treatment.  I'm pleased your husband is past it. It's such a worrying time hearing news like this. Keep me up updated ivwill too fingers crossed

  • Hi yeah I'll keep you updated and I hope you have a speedy recovery and we can both can put this past us

  • Definitely! You are in my prayers good luck. It's funny a bird pooped on me so hoping that's my new luck!
