breast lump and small lumps in other areas?

while on hols a couple of weeks ago, my wife (38) noticed a small lump in her left breast after an episode of itchyness. she has 3 small lumps on her left armpit and one on her right armpit which have been there for years (she went a while back to her GP and was told it was nothing to worry about) , plus an inverted nipple which again she had for years . called GP last week, was seen the day after and referred with 2ww appointment to breast clinic - GP spoke about getting a biopsy but also said lump felt mobile which seems to be a good thing. since then we realised she has 3 small lumps (which feel tender and mobile), one on the back of her neck, one on her chest (close to the sternum, on the left side) and one on top of her belly button. we'll be seen on Thursday - very good so quick but she was concerned it may be something serious. I'm trying not to Google too much but obviously I'm worried - specially about those other little lumps which seems we never noticed, however there's a chance we're paying much more attention now so I can't exclude they've been there forever.

we're waiting to see the consultant of course and it will be good to know if there's anything to worry about (whatever that is), but I was wondering if there could be any other explanations about those small lumps in unrelated areas which may not be what nobody wants it to be.

  • Hi worriedhusbandsurrey and welcome to the community.

Coming across any unusual or unexplained lumps will naturally cause some worry but I do hope your wife's appointment goes well today and you're able to get some answers and peace of mind.

If there is anything that comes up at the appointment or anything playing on your mind that you'd like to discuss in further detail with one of our cancer nurses, they're available for a chat on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m

Fingers crossed all will be o.k worriedhusbandsurrey.

  • Thank you so much Steph. Scan showed a 18mm lump which both sonographer and consultant said didn't look like cancer. A biopsy was performed and results will come in approx 3 weeks. They performed also a scan of the lumps under the armpit and they are just lymph nodes which look alright. For the lumps on neck / abdomen she was seen today by the GP which seems to believe they're lipomas but she's been referred to the dermatologist.

all in all no bad news and hopeful results will come all good.

  • I'm so pleased to hear that worriedhusbandsurrey.

It must be such a relief and a huge weight off both your shoulders.

Fingers crossed your wife won't have to wait too long for the appointment with the dermatologist to come through.

    Best wishes to you both,
