Biopsy not taken?

Hi all, just wondered if anyone had a similar experience? So I had MRI over a week ago, and had my ultrasound appointment today and was supposed to have fine needle aspiration biopsy/core biopsy as stated by ENT consultant and on the appointment letter. I went for my ultrasound appointment and they said they didn't need to take a biopsy as  the lump on side of my neck is near a nerve. She said you can get many lumps on neck and some they biopsy some they don't. She said it's near a nerve, and when doing the ultrasound I was listening and heard them say it was lemon shaped and had vascularity. And also said was not a branchial cyst. She said I should get an appointment to see ENT again soon now that MRI and ultrasound been done, and that the MRI will be able to tell the consultant more and that I didn't really need ultrasound as the MRI will tell them more?

just wondered if anyone else had a similar experience?

thanks

  • I'm sorry the fine needle aspiration biopsy/core biopsy wasn't carried out when you went for your appointment Hardlumpinneck. It's completely understandable why you may be feeling a tad confused about this decision, especially given what you were told by your ENT consultant, but maybe if you get in touch with your GP, they'll be able to find out why they decided against carrying out the biopsy.

Hopefully you'll hear back from our members who have been in a similar situation soon but if you feel it may help to talk things through with one of our nurses then you're very welcome to get in touch with them on 0808 800 4040, Monday - Friday between 9a.m - 5p.m.

I hope you're able to get some answers soon and you won't be waiting too long to see ENT again.

    All the best,
