First breast clinic visit

Hello all,

I expect there is many posts on here about this, but this is my first time and very nervous and anxious.

I went to my GP today aftermonitoring a lump on my left breast, but when the GP examined me, she also found some "suspicious" thickening near the nipple too so referred me to the breast clinic. She said I should be seen within 2 weeks.

20 minutes later, I had a text stating my breast clinic appointment is next Tuesday, so quick.

My maternal mums identical twin had double breast cancer aged 40, and I am 42. It maybe nothing but the lump has got bigger within the month and didn't realise about the thickening.

How long does the first appointment last, and what do I expect? I have read several hours, some say a quick chat and examination.

Hope you can all advise. Thanks Barbara

  • Hi hope you are okay. I too have been referred urgently to the breast clinic due to swelling and tenderness on left side near armpit. Plus sensitive skin side of left breast, really a read it's going to be cancer and that it's spread because of the tenderness near armpit. My appointment is on Thursday (I was only seen by the gp today) I was calm before as didn't think it was anything to worry about but now I'm really worried it will show cancer. Think I'm scared as I lost my sister to cancer.

  • Hi there, thanks for your reply.

I really do hope your appointment goes well, and so sorry to hear about your sister.

I had a mini breakdown in Jan due to 2nd lockdown and only recently felt 100% but this has really knocked me back.

My auntie is an inspiration. She had double breast cancer aged 40 and had a double mastectomy. Then 6 years ago discovered had throat cancer and mouth cancer, after vigorous chemo she is in remission again.

I'm usually positive and bubbly but this has really knocked me. I hate waiting. I know I will get through it like you will too no matter what xx
